The Board of Examiners conducts the examination of candidates for clerkships and interpreterships in the service of the Colony and also examinations held under the regulations for the encouragement of the acquisition of Chinese and those of student interpreters.
The number of clerkships filled by examination in the year 1896 was five.
The conduct of examinations of police constables, gaol guards, and sanitary inspectors in English and Chinese has been delegated to a sub-committee of which the Secretary to the Board is a member.
